OUGD502 - Study Task 8 - What is a Creative CV (Part 1)

In order to produce an effective creative CV you need to consider several key questions:

What is a Creative CV?
Who are you writing it for?
Who needs to read it?
Who will actually read it?
What do they need to know?
What do they want to know?

Task 1

Identify a minimum of 10 designer's, studios or practitioners that you intend to contact with a view to organising a range of studio visits. In doing this you will need a full set of contact details for direct mailing. You will also need to familiarise yourself with their work their clients and the set up of their studio/practice...

Knowledge of Company :-

Love Creative are a branding and design agency based in Manchester. I found out about them by speaking with their ex creative director, Jono Brain, who passed me on the details of their current creative director in order to get in touch. I haven't yet been in touch with them, but really hope that I can sort out a placement with them in the not too distant future because their work is right up my street.

We bring brands to life by helping them find the most interesting things to say to their customers in the most interesting ways.

We do it using strategy, intuition and creativity to begin and continue conversations that are full of insight, ideas and personality.

Not Now (Manchester)

Knowledge of Studio : -

Not Now is a five-strong, deliberately small, studio based in Manchester. We solve creative problems in a number of areas; spanning design, film, illustration and anywhere else we're needed. Started by a common ambition for something bigger, each project is an opportunity to not play safe.

I recently was involved in one of their exhibitions, entitled De-Feed. I feel like my work has synergy with theirs and that studio visits would be beneficial. They wouldn't want a long term internship as they are a very small studio.

Knowledge of Company :-

OK200 is an Amsterdam based graphic design studio founded by Mattijs de Wit and Koen Knevel in 2010. They studied together at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. After graduation they decided that working as a team would realise their dream of having their own design studio.

The name OK200 is based upon a server response code which means: ‘your request has succeeded’. OK200 is a personal, headstrong, fast, authentic graphic design studio. They make no distinction between working for a big corporate company or a cultural institution. OK200 has experience in working on various projects, from website, to magazine, identity, to whatever you request.

OK200 is always willing to give advice, to help clients straighten their ideas and to make their brand stronger.

I got offered to intern with these over summer but they couldn't afford to pay me to live in amsterdam for a month and I'm pretty skint so this was really unfortunate.

Creative CV Examples

An interesting format for a CV which is a peice of work in itself. Helps show what kind of work the person likes doing and also shows some skills.

Pretty bad execution on this one, but a great concept nevertheless. Could have been better if done by a half decent designer.

Another interesting format to grab attention. Something a little bit different.

another really nice layout which is showing skills as well as the info-graphic showing areas of interest and expertise. This is a great CV in my opinion which would hopefully ant a studio to employ you.

This is a really cool idea too. Bold type makes it easy to understand when quickly looking at it, which is the most likely outcome. Clean layouts, Nice type and interesting format makes for a great creative CV.

Similar approach to the last and just a really nice format to work with which is a little bit different and may help make you stand out to a studio; A Newspaper.
