Catalogue
Unit 2
Aire Street Workshops
30-34 Aire Street
Leeds
LS1 4HT
Catalogue is an independent graphic design studio founded in 2010 based in Leeds. They specialise in design for print, branding, identity, books, exhibition and web. They work for both commercial clients and on self initiated projects.
Extended self initiated projects include an independent publishing platrom Catalogue Library and a bi-annual magazine Library paper, both of which are stocked in shops all over the world.
They appeal to me because they are really contemporary and seem to be influenced and interested in very similar things to me. They used to be on the Leeds College of Art Graphic Design course which shows the talent coming through and also proves that I could set p my own studio at a later date if I really wanted to. However, they do not take on interns because it is 'killing off the design industry' so I might just have to approach them to work for decent money that isn't an internship.

I'm currently interning at Republic's head office in Leeds, working with the design team on concepts for design for fashion. I think this is great because it allows me to marry my passion for design with that of fashion and is opening my eyes to how this side of the industry works. It's a good opportunity to be involved in this way and something i'm looking forward to getting the most out of.

Two Times Elliott is a design consultancy based in Notting Hill, London. Headed up by Creative Directors, James Horwitz and Ross Gunter, Two Times Elliott produces a diverse range of work across multiple disciplines including print design, identity and web. We help our clients communicate their message clearly and intelligently.
"We are also passionate about giving new young design talent studio experience where they can work with the team to boost the vigour of our projects and generally augment the creative process."
This seems positive that it's possible for me to get an internship there. I think the studio looks fun to be involved in as I follow them on instagram and get to see what they're working on, on a day to day basis. The work speaks for itself. It's effortlessly cool and right up my street. Most of the design is quality, clean cut branding which is something I want to focus on more this year.

Again Studio Sammut is a studio who I keep seeing their work through feeds online and it makes me stop and check them out. They use bold colours and clean cut branding which is something that I am interested in a lot. I would love to have the opportunity to work with them as I feel I could learn so much from them but at the same time help bring fresh ideas to the table.
Liqourice Studio
Liquorice Studio
Level 1, 184 Brunswick Street
Fitzroy, Victoria 3065
Phone +61 3 9023 5767

Liquorice Studio is a Melbourne-based branding and communications agency with a wide range of clients nationwide. Their mission is to help organisations engage their customers through beautifully crafted design and smart digital solutions. Since 2008, their continuous effort to produce high-quality and meaningful creative work has led to strong ongoing relationships with some of Australia’s most well-known companies, including Origin Energy and Bupa Australia.
Their experience covers all facets of brand identity and communication services across sectors such as B2B, retail, not-for-profit, manufacturing, government and education.
I can relate to the design that they are producing on a day to day basis, and this is something that I feel could synergies with and take inspiration from. They have quite a large team of around 7 people which would also make it better to fit in and are based in Australia.
Task 2
Identify the top choice and WHY you feel that they may have synergy with your practice now, or in the near future.
Liqourice Studio
I chose Liqourice Studio as my number one choice because I can see myself working some way in every project they have been involved in. The work jumps out to me and I feel that I am on the same wavelength as them when it comes to having a certain eye or aesthetic towards design.

I feel that I can take influence from then while at the same time have an understanding that the work I produce could easily fit in with their niche.
Is your choice based on: Location, Direction of Practice, The Brand Philosophy, The Clint Base?
I think that the main reason is of course the direction of practice as I have already mentioned in task two. The location is probably second. I haven't really thought about it much before, but I have started to notice more and more Australia based studios churning out amazing design. Maybe it is something to do with the lifestyle and that is something that I would definitely be interested in. Living in Melbourne working in a perfect studio then surfing on the weekends. Lastly, the design team seem to be a really close knit laid back set of people who just work well together. The atmosphere seems to be not too stressful allowing the work to bring itself together. This is something that would be perfect for me.
Task 4
What if none of those is your main reason for choosing to follow this organization, what is it specifically?
Mainly Direction of practice is my main motive behind selection of studio's. Location and atmosphere is probably a close second. I want to explore design hopefully in a different country. I haven't really got any other specific reasons other than these.
When considering these practices:
WHY you are contacting them and why they should listen?
WHAT do you want them to do next and what do you actually want.
WHY they should get back to you?
I am contacting them because I generally think that my eye for design is in synergy with theirs. I feel that I could comfortably be free with the design style that I am passionate about and still fit well with the clients wants, needs and the companies morals. They should listen to me because I have the portfolio of work to back myself up. I am looking to build this portfolio more with the use of live briefs, competition briefs and other industrial experience in the form of internships at Bezier and Republic. They should get back to me because i'm different, current and of a similar wavelength as them.
Task 6
Now you have identified initially these studios you feel synergy with. Please list 8 methods you could utilize to contact them?
- Phone
- Send something interesting through the post
- By being persistent.
- Turning up unannounced and trying to get your foot through the door.
- A 'Creative' CV as appose to a paper one.
- An image in an email that is different and striking as appose to just a stand body copy email.
- An info-pack about myself which includes interesting items such as balloons and 'party gear' branded with myself, work and personality.
