- The more expensive the magazine, generally the less infomation is crammed onto the front.
- The title is generally at the top of the cover
- Generally released weekly, monthly or quarterly.
- Generally photographic imagery on the covers (except art and children based magazines)
- Mostly the same size format, around a4.
Books
- Standard size/format
- More formal than a magazine
- Comes in both paper and hardback copies
- Title needs to stand out as its the only thing on there
- Made to be kept and not trow away (quality)
General Publications
- Generally lots of info crammed into a small space
- Broad range of different pieces
- Varied printing techniques
- varied sizing
- no particular format
5 Things We Now Know...
Magazines
- More expensive, less info on front.
- so many different categories for absolutely everything.
- Typeface conveys the context of the magazine
- Art magazine are more experimental
- and better made quality.
Books
- Is digital for younger audience? lots of teen fiction
- So many digital versions of books and kindle
- Too many young people have autobiographies!
General Publications
- each sub catergoy has similar size formats
- more concious of design
- more design led than traditional newspapers ect.
